Pavilion B

19th and 20th Century Photographs

Pavilion B, which houses the Underwood and Underwood Archives from 1898-1905, exhibits significant photographs from the 19th and 20th century Philippines. The room features photographs of General Mariano Trias, the Philippines’ Vice President in 1897; photographs of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Juan Luna, and Valentin Ventura; Douglas MacArthur’ s father, Arthur MacArthur; the original Magdalo boys from Cavite; and the Porta Vaga Church in Fort San Felipe, Cavite City. Another important set of photographs is the collection of images of different Philippine generals and photos of Philippine revolutionary heroes Andres Bonifacio, Artemio Ricarte, General Mariano Alvarez, Diego Silang, Apolinario Mabini, and Antonio Luna. One of the most prized images in this pavilion is a blown-up photograph of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’ s execution on December 30, 1896, taken from an original photo.
